Red & Yellow Bonspiel CHALLENGE!

We believe that as a social organization, the curling club brings great value to the community.  It is a place not only to get exercise to remain healthy and stay engaged mentally, but to make connections with the community.

We would like to take that community spirit one step further this year with our annual closing spiel by doing something together to Pay It Forward to the community.

With that in mind we are issuing the Red & Yellow Challenge!

Each member of the Cornwall Curling Club is encouraged to donate blood and/or time and/or a monetary donation through the Canadian Blood Services or donate time and/or a monetary donation to the Canadian Cancer Society from now until the Red & Yellow Bonspiel.

Their logos tie in great with the Red & Yellow colours – but more importantly, both organizations provide great services to our community.

To participate, simply book your blood donation at: BLOOD.CA

You can make contact with the Canadian Blood Services at: (888) 236-6283

You can donate money to the Canadian Cancer Society at:  CANCER.CA

You can make contact with the PEI branch of the Canadian Cancer Society at: (902) 566-4007

The team with the most individuals volunteering will receive a 10,000 point bonus on their cumulative score for the Red & Yellow Bonspiel.

Once you have given your donation of blood, time, or money simply email the club manager or mark it on the list on the bulletin board at the club.

NOTES:

  • It doesn’t matter if you are Red Team or Yellow Team – you can donate to EITHER service and it count for your team, because ultimately we are all in this together!
  • You may select a community organization that is near and dear to you as well instead of the proposed options.
  • You do NOT have to actually play in the Red & Yellow Bonspiel this year to participate.
  • If you don’t know which team you are on, please contact the manager.
  • We are using the honour system.
  • Notification that you have donated must be received by the afternoon of Friday, March 28th

This recent article shows the urgent need for blood donations in our province: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-edward-island/pei-charlottetown-blood-donations-needed-1.7465849

On a personal note, I sat in a hospital room late at night as a blood transfusion from a blood donor was given to my daughter to keep her alive as she fought blood cancer.  You cannot begin to fathom how grateful we were in that moment that someone took the time to donate blood.
