We have EXCITING news for the upcoming season – the Cornwall Curling Club will be opening EARLY to host some PRESEASON leagues and events this year beginning on September 14th!

Our club has been asked if we would be able to put our ice in a little early to host some important CurlPEI preseason events and the traditional, competitive preseason league and preseason practices and the Board of Directors has approved the request.
To maximize this time, we are also hoping to host a few other leagues/events during that time as well.
Registration for these events should be live by Wednesday, August 20th at cornwall.curling.io

OTHER EVENTS & DETAILS
We are working on plans for a few other events/programs as well and will provide more information as those plans take shape.
It is noted that the preseason is separate from our regular season membership, leagues, and events.
If returning members want to get on the ice BEFORE the free, open ice times scheduled for October 16th-17th they will be required to join one of the leagues, pay a drop-in fee during scheduled practice times, or pay for a rental.
We are doing our best to be fiscally responsible with our staff hours during this preseason period and ensure that we are able to cover any additional expenses from opening early. We feel confident we will be able to accomplish this between preseason league fees, CurlPEI grants, rentals, and other planned activities.
The end of September and beginning of October is traditionally a very busy time at the club as we gear up for our upcoming season, plan our special events, and get registrations taken care of for the season. We have planned the attached schedule to maximize our staff’s time, energy, and hours as we host our preseason events and prepare for our regular season.
REGULAR SEASON REGISTRATION
Returning member registration for our regular season will begin on Monday, September 22nd
New member registration will begin on Monday, September 29th
We are very excited for both the upcoming preseason and our fast approaching regular season!

We have had lots of inquires about the event already so we recommend registering soon!

Divisions and prize totals will be determined by registrations – last year we had a U15 and a U18/U20 division.
Teams can register at: www.cornwallcurling.com/winterjam26
I don’t typically post purely personal things on the club website, but several members asked me to keep them updated and I’m excited to be able to say – I’m officially CANADIAN!

Thanks to all those who encouraged me during this process!
Your fellow Canadian,
Travis

NOTE: We will have the bar open – please bring CASH for drinks!
During the Friday draws of the Red & Yellow we shared some club trivia and we have been asked to post it so members of the club can see some of the cool things that happened this season.

One final question:
How many Grand Slam of Curling teams practiced at the club this season?
Answer: 45/64
Congratulations to Elaine Hughes and Etta Reid, who won the silver medal in the women’s division at the 2025 Canadian Stick Curling Championships held in Grande Prairie, Alberta from April 2nd-6th.

George & Patsy Piercey also competed in the open division and secured a major upset in one of their games!
Great job representing the club and the province to both teams.

We had a year in review video playing at the club during the Red & Yellow – it has been updated to include pictures from the Red & Yellow as well and can be seen below or by clicking HERE:
The first ever Red & Yellow was a huge success – and not just because the Yellow team WON!
The Red & Yellow actually began on March 16th with our junior curlers playing their portion and continued throughout the month with our novice and stick curlers participating just before the closing spiel began last Friday.
The closing spiel was full with 24 teams for each colour and the scores going back and forth throughout the event.
As the final draw was being played and with only a handful of rocks remaining both teams had a mathematical chance to win – especially after one of the Red teams won a $21,000 skin to end the game.
But the rest of the last rocks went Yellow’s way as they secured a 51,000 point win!

The top scoring team of the event, with an impressive 70,000 points, was Yellow #7 which included Paul Neima, John Clark, Amanda MacIntosh, and Mary Whalley. (NOTE: John’s luck was running strong on Saturday as he also won the 50/50 that day!)

Just behind them, with 69,000 points, was Red #2 with Paul Durant, Eugene Murphy, Leonard Cudmore, and Kim Thomson.

The third place team, with 67,000 points, was Red #1 comprised of Roger DesRoches, Garth Nicholson, Carlene Peters, and Art O’Malley.

The 4th place team, with 59,000 points, was Yellow #9 with Cody Whynot, Connor MacEwen, Brittany Dugal, and Chris MacDougall.

The Lucky Loonie winners were Red #5!
Best dressed on Team Red was Gordon Matthews, with the runner up being Hans Wicki.

Best dressed on Team Yellow was Alan Mason, with the runner up being Paul Neima.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the banquet meal provided by Sizzler BBQ and during the banquet the club recognized Roy Coffin with the Founders Award for Volunteer of the Year at the club. Congrats to Roy on his well deserved recognition.
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the event go so smoothly and for all those who participated – what a fun way to end a wonderful season.
Congratulations to the winners of the PEI Retired Teachers’ Association Bonspiel 2025

Left to right: Robert Brown (second), Sharon McGuigan (third), Gordie Cox (skip), and Florrie MacLeod (lead)
The winner of the Saturday 50/50 draw at the Red & Yellow will receive $108.
The winning ticket number is: 737397
If this is your number let the manager know!

The Cornwall Curling Club will hold the Annual General Meeting of the Club on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 7pm at the club.

The club office will be closed today due to the road conditions
More details and pictures will follow early next week, but congratulations to the Yellow Team for their victory in the 2025 Red & Yellow!
Friday wound up being a great day for the Red team.
They narrowly won the 10,000 point Red & Yellow Challenge bonus points and are currently sitting 44,000 points in the lead – but the points values go up each round tomorrow so the games tomorrow will be intense.
Can Red maintain their lead to take a 2nd straight victory, or will newly rebranded Yellow make an exciting comeback?

Congratulations to the team of Julie Scales, Sharon McGuigan, Todd Saunders, and Kathryn Dickson (along with spare Jana Cheverie) who took 1st place in the final round of the Thursday Mixed League.

Team Scales topped Team Craig Moore by a score of 82.5 to 81 for the round. So close!
Team Donald weeks came in third with 79.5 points.
Thanks once again to Angela Sanderson for taking on the drawmaster duties for the league this season.
The 2025 Red & Yellow Closing Spiel starts today at 1pm.
The entry fee is $40 payable in CASH at the door. NOTE: Correct change isn’t required but will help made the registration process go faster!
We will also be doing a 50/50 at the door.
Below you will find the draw schedule, the teams, and the rules.
Reminder – the Red & Yellow Challenge is still going on and it’s very close – we’ll accept confirmation of your donations until the start of the first draw at 1pm on Friday!
Lunch on Saturday at 1:30 will be Sizzler BBQ and is for any registered curler in the event. We will also be passing out a few door prizes and recognizing our Founders Award Volunteer of the Year recipient!
We hope to get pictures of each team immediately before or after your first draw!

The Juniors, Novice, and Stick Curlers have completed their Red & Yellow events and we head into the weekend event with a very close score – with Red clinging to a 4,000 point lead.

Yellow team – we are currently at least three people behind in the Red & Yellow Challenge – so click on https://donate.cancer.ca/ and donate now and let us know or Red will get an additional 10,000 bonus points!
A few pictures Stephanie took during the stick event today:
We are aware of the weather but roads around the club are mostly wet with only small patches of accumulation.
As always, we advise everyone to use their own judgement based on conditions where you are, but at present the club will be open as usual today!
An Ode to Whimsy (And a Fond Farewell to Blue)
Some rocks are still red,
In Cornwall, that’s true;
Some new stones are yellow,
But . . . they’ll forever be blue.
—Anonymous (Probably some Colour-Blind Club Manager)

Gone but not forgotton: Cornwall Curling Club manager Travis Jones is sad to say goodbye to his treasured blue stones on the eve of the club’s annual closing bonspiel. (Bill McGuire photo)

Ah, tradition. It warms the heart, like a piping-hot coffee on a brisk PEI morning or a lucky curling sweater that hasn’t been washed in years (for superstitious reasons, of course). And yet, change comes for us all. In this case, it arrived from Scotland, wrapped in mystery, legend, and bubble wrap.
Yes, folks, the great Cornwall Curling Club rock transition of 2024-2025 is complete, and the annual club-closing bonspiel is about to take place under a new banner: Red & Yellow. Gone are the days of Red vs. Blue—gone but not forgotten, especially by those diehard Team Blue curlers who now find themselves scrambling to update their wardrobes.
For years, they lovingly collected blue tuques, blue scarves, blue sweaters, and even, in some cases, blue curling pants (which we all agreed was a bold fashion choice). But now? Now they must embrace the sunshine-bright glow of Yellow. And let’s be honest—some of them are taking it about as well as a bad pick on the final shot of an extra-end game.
[Let us all pause for a brief moment of silence and remembrance for Paul Neima’s tickle trunk]
The Battle of the Bonspiel Begins
This weekend marks the first-ever Red & Yellow Closing Bonspiel, where the newly minted Yellow faction will try to channel their inner golden warriors and take on the steadfast Reds, who are undoubtedly feeling rather smug about maintaining their colour continuity (and riding the high of last year’s victory).
The event is sold out, the curling will be fierce, the competition legendary, and the volume of team-coordinated outfits truly astonishing. Teams are encouraged (nay, required!) to dress in their designated colour, which means there will be a sea of red and yellow sweeping across the ice, looking less like a curling club and more like a fast-food chain’s mascot convention.
Club manager Travis Jones, a hardcore Team Blue devotee, is said to be taking the transition particularly hard. After several boisterous years of leading the charge for Team Blue, some say he’s been spotted late at night whispering words of encouragement to the now-retired blue stones, assuring them they will always be winners in his heart. Others claim he’s petitioning to have them repurposed as club décor, museum pieces, or—if all else fails—doorstops at Government House or for the renovated Province House.
The Spirit of the Spiel
The transition may have been a shock, but the spirit of the event remains unchanged. The Red & Yellow is still about friendly competition, club camaraderie, and, of course, an excuse to eat, drink, and be merry. (Let’s be honest: curling is really just a warm-up for the banquet.)
This year’s event will feature:
And let’s not forget the all-important Bragging Rights for next season, which the winning team will recount at every opportunity for the next season, while the losing side graciously nods and pretends to be happy for them (until next year, when revenge will undoubtedly be plotted).
A Look Back (With a Tear and a Chuckle)
Last year, Red emerged victorious, breaking Team Blue’s two-year winning streak in their final hours. Some call it poetic justice, others call it sabotage, but regardless, it made the farewell to Blue even harder to bear. Now, with allegiances shifted and old rivalries rebranded, we step into a bold new era.
Some of the remaining, blue-handled rocks, after more than 42 years of faithful service, now sit along the wall—retired, respected, reduced in weight, and probably feeling a little salty about their abrupt dismissal. But as history teaches us, the game goes on. And so, too, must we.
Cornwall’s Curling Season: A Year in Review
As we prepare to bring the season to a close, it’s worth reflecting on what a remarkable year it has been. Cornwall continues to be a vibrant hub of curling activity, boasting nearly 400 curlers—a number that more than doubles any other curling club on the Island.
Highlights from this past season include:
And so, as the final rocks slide down the ice this weekend, as the last celebratory beverage is raised in the clubhouse, and as the echoes of laughter and friendly ribbing fade into the night, we close the doors on another fantastic season at the Cornwall Curling Club.
Red & Yellow may be new, but the spirit of competition, camaraderie, and curling chaos remains the same.
Now, let’s get out there, throw some stones, and make some memories. (And if you’re one of those former Team Blue curlers—maybe pick up a yellow scarf at Price Mart.)
The 2025 Red & Yellow Closing Spiel draw is ready to go!
Below you will find the draw schedule, the teams, and the rules (don’t worry, we’ll have these posted this weekend too!).
Please let me know if you see an error and/or you signed up but need a spare – we did our best to balance teams with time requests and keeping people close to the position they requested.
Reminder – the Red & Yellow Challenge is still going on and it’s very close – we’ll accept confirmation of your donations until the start of the first draw at 1pm on Friday!
The cost for the event is $40 – payable in cash at the door on Friday!

Oops – I made a boo boo in the last draw.
Here’s the updated draw.

Due to potential conditions later this evening and some teams already telling us they will not be able to make it we have decided to cancel the Tuesday Upstreet League tonight.
The club will be closing by 6pm.
Due to the uncertain nature of the road conditions later this afternoon we are going to cancel Novice program for Tuesday, March 18th.
A further update will be made by 4:30pm regarding this evening’s draw schedule.

Our new benches now have cushioned seats thanks to the hard work and craftsmanship of Alan Mason!
He heard some people mention it was cold to sit on the wood by itself and made these amazing cushioned seats.
I can confirm they are very comfortable.
I can also confirm that Alan refused to lay across one of them and strike a pose for next season’s club calendar LOL!

There are only a handful of slots left in both the daytime and evening draws of the Red & Yellow!
If you are wanting to play please let us know via email or sign up at the club ASAP.
If you can’t be at the entire event but would like to sign up to spare, there’s a spare list on the bulletin board as well.

Finally, don’t forget about the Red & Yellow Challenge – donate time, money, or blood to the Canadian Blood Services, Canadian Cancer Society, or the community service group of your choice and let us know – the team with the most volunteers will receive a 10,000 point bonus!
Ten junior curlers from PEI traveled to the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax this weekend to participate in the U15 RockFest Atlantic.

Out of a total of 72 curlers, five PEI juniors (Aaron Haight, Oliver MacEwen, Kolin Beaton, Grace Myers, and Lily Whalley) earned top 12 in their divisions during qualifying to advance to the finals!

Congratulations to Aaron Haight, who finished 2nd in the male division, and Grace Myers, who finished 3rd in the female division.

We are excited to be partnering with Crapaud Curling Club to host the 2026 RockFest Atlantic next March in PEI!

Round 2 of the Wednesday Evening Ladder League wrapped up on March 5, and again featured lots of close games between evenly-matched teams. There was one night (Jan. 29) with weather that kept some teams at home. As there are only three weeks left in the season, and we want to give all teams as much play as possible, we will declare winners based on the current standings, as factoring in the missing games would not affect which teams move up or down. All teams will either play in all of the last three weeks, or have a bye in one of the weeks.
Looking at the “A” pool, the Joe Callaghan and Cody Whynot squads both finished with 6 wins and both played the weather-affected week, while the next teams had only 4 wins, and therefore wouldn’t win the round, even if the week they missed was factored in. Whynot beat Callaghan 6-2 in their round-robin encounter to win the round.
Moving back down the ladder to the “B” pool will be the Greg Groves rink with 2 wins, along with the Hank Kamphuis foursome with 1 win and a not-played for the weather-affected night. The Mark MacDonald team had the bye on that night and finished with 3 wins, and will be the third rink to descend the ladder to the B pool.
In the “B” Pool, the Doug Callin team had six wins, while the Christopher Griffin team had six or seven (score sheet not clear on this, and their opponent didn’t mark theirs). Both teams will be moving up to the “A” pool for the abbreviated final round. As Callin beat Griffin in their round robin play, but Griffin didn’t play on the “weather” night, we’ll declare them tied for “B” pool champs for Round Two, and they’ll both be moving up to the “A” Pool.
Also in “B”, the Jenine Bodner squad had five or six wins (neither they nor their opponent marked the score for the last week) and the Veronica Pater squad reeled off five victories, but didn’t play on the weather-affected evening (against Team Griffin). Since Bodner beat Pater in their game, we’ll award the remaining spot in the “A” pool to Team Bodner.
Here are the pools for the 3-week final round:
| A Pool | B Pool |
| A1-Whynot | B1-MacDonald |
| A2-Callaghan | B2-Groves |
| A3-Watts | B3-Kamphuis |
| A4-Arsenault | B4-Milligan |
| A5-Hanzl | B5-Pater |
| A6-Boswall | B6-Stewart |
| A7-Callin | B7-Deziel |
| A8-Griffin | B8-Neima |
| A9-Bodner | B9-Beaton |
Here is the draw and schedule for Round Three:
PLEASE NOTE: The “B” Pool gets the late draw the first week of Round Three, as they had the early draw the last week of Round One. IF you have changed pools, please take note of your draw time as you will be playing at the same time as you did in the last week of Round Two
March 12: Round 3, Week 1
March 19: Round 3, Week 2
March 26: Round 3, Week 3

At 8:30pm Pierce Clarke, Island & GSOC musician, will entertain us with some tunes.
Then at 10:30pm the Brier Page 1/2 game starts and will be shown on the club TV.
Come out to watch curling, be entertained, grab a drink and hang out with other Island curlers!

The club is very excited to be hosting the 2025 PEI Club Championships this week, starting on Thursday, March 6th at noon.
This year each club had the opportunity to send TWO teams from each gender division – so we have ten men’s teams and eight women’s teams competing for the provincial crown!
On Saturday night we will have live music from Pierce Clarke from 8:30p-10:30p with the Brier Page 1/2 game starting at 10:30p for those that want to stick around and watch.

Speaking of playoffs, the Club Championship playoff round begins on Sunday morning at 9am

The Cornwall Curling Club acknowledges and recognises the immeasurable contributions volunteers make to the Club continually throughout the season. The dedication of our membership is what has been, and continues to be, the driving force behind the success of our Club. Without these volunteers, the Club would not be what it is today.
To recognize the amazing efforts of our members, we created an annual award called the “Founders Award” for Volunteer of the Year at the Cornwall Curling Club. This award is presented to an outstanding, exceptional and dedicated member of the Cornwall Curling Club at the Annual General Meeting.
The Cornwall Curling Club started because of the dedication and commitment of the founding members who believed in the dream of having a curling club in Cornwall. Today, the success of the club is largely based on the same desires of having a welcoming, reputable, and enjoyable curling club.
Every year, members of the curling club donate their time in many ways and it does not go unnoticed. There is a significant amount of time and effort dedicated to preparing the club for opening, special events, league play, general maintenance and much more! The outstanding and much appreciated efforts of our membership is acknowledged by the Board of Directors by the creation of the Founders Award.
Members of the Cornwall Curling Club are encouraged to nominate their fellow deserving club mates for the Founders Award!
The nomination criteria include:
To nominate a fellow member, please send an email or letter to manager@cornwallcurling.com which contains the name of the nominee and a brief description of their contribution to the Cornwall Curling Club.
The deadline to nominate is Friday, March 21st.
The winner will be announced at the Red & Yellow Banquet on March 29th at 1:30pm.
As always, if you have any questions please feel free to contact myself or any other member of the Board of Directors.
Kindly,
Sue Pollard (Volunteer Chair) & the Board of Directors
We still have quite a few slots open for the PEI Club Curling Championships which start on THURSDAY.

There was an error in the Schedule Page that was pointed out to me.
It has been updated to the correct information.
THIS Wednesday there are MAKE UP GAMES for the Wednesday Daytime League at 10:00am.
In the afternoon there is Afternoon Stick Drop-In.
REMINDER: There is NO drop-in on either Thursday or Friday.
I hear her dad reminded Kellie-Lynn Younker to sign in for the 50/50 on their way out the door on Thursday. It was a good thing, as her name was drawn and she is the winner of $469!
Congrats!

U12 Playoffs have been set following the conclusion of the round robin.

First round is tomorrow at 10:00am with championship round beginning at 1:00pm
