AGM and Awards Night held

billhopebobfowlerPhoto Bill Hope, skip of  KFC Competitive team championship rink, receives plaque from Club President Bob Fowler

The Cornwall Curling Club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Awards night was held Friday evening at the Club. Bill Hope was on hand to receive the plaque for the winning team in the  KFC Tuesday Night Competitive league. Other members of the Hope team are third Ted MacFadyen, second Craig Mackie, and lead David Murphy.  Gift certificates, and a few T-Shirts were presented to winners, and, depending on the number of rounds, runners-up in the various draws, thanks to our generous sponsors.

President Bob Fowler presided over the AGM, attended by 26 people. Some of the highlights:

A new member incentive of a 10% dues reduction for each new member recruited resulted in 30 new members for a payout of $770 in reduced fees.

The new ice plant and reduced electicity costs this year resulted in a reduction of around $3000.

There was discussion around the purchase of a First Aid “back board” (stretcher) for moving those who incur injuries. Bev said that they were advised NOT to move anyone – to call 911 and wait for the first responders. It was agreed instead to purchase a couch where those who need a place to lay down may do so.

It was reported that a new Ice King,  a TV, a  kitchen cart, and office computer equipment were purchased using a government grant program where the Club only paid 25% of the cost.

The Financial Report indicated a loss for the year, due to having to pay for the previous year’s electricity (about $12K) and some other expenses, and due to a financial decision to begin depreciating assets. Had these expenses not been incurred, it would have been a breakeven year.

It was reported that 25 Junior curlers were in the instructional program. Coordinator was Brenda MacMillan, assisted by Greg Groves. It was suggested that the times be moved to 4-6 pm on Sunday.

Three successful club bonspiels were held during the year, and Cornwall curlers were big winners at the provincials, the 55+ Games, and the national Stick championships, held at the Club.

A new scoreboard was purchased and installed near year-end, sponsored by Fitzgerald and Snow.

The daytime curlers had a very busy season on the ice, and also provided food for a number of events, and raised money for plaques to honour provincial winners, rock handles and boot cleaners. The Lorne MacPhail award was redefined to honour a new daytime curler who made a notable contribution to the Club, and was awarded to Grant and Carolyn Crockett. They recommended more stick curling next year, and to move the overflow Wednesday afternoon curling to another time other than Wednesday morning.

There were 272 members this year, the same as last, including 42 junior and 12 Junior Plus.

$719 profit was realized from the television draw.

Five new board members were nominated: Edgar Coffin, Jeffrey Taylor, Carlene Peters, Paula Ling, and Derek MacEwen. Kevin Arsenault, Lorianne Davies, Arleen Harris, and Mike Lafontaine have completed their term on the board, while Bob Fowler will stay on as Past President.

The attendees were asked for their opinion on whether to keep or remove the centre lockers in both boardrooms, as there is a shortage of space, particularly during provincial events where all players are the same sex. Members felt that, as long as they are rented, we should keep them, but look at other ways to save space, such as removing the slanted area on the top of the side lockers, or offering racks outside the locker rooms, so there would be room for kit bags.

There was also discussion on the need for larger TV monitors for the houses on each ice sheet, which would be brought to the new Board.

Attendees were reminded of the golf tournament on June 22 at Countryview.

Groves and Durant teams win final Ladder League rounds

The third and final round of the Wednesday Evening Ladder League, sponsored by Clyde River Golf Links, wrapped up last Wednesday, with the Greg Groves rink capturing the A section,  and the Paul Durant team, who moved down from the A pool for the last round, winning the B.

Groves and the Mark MacDonald team both had three wins and one loss in four games played (both had byes), while the Karen Currie rink had three wins and two losses in five games.  MacDonald beat Groves, but lost to Currie. Currie beat MacDonald, but lost to Groves, Groves beat Currie but lost to MacDonald. This means that head to head results could not be used to pick the winners, so I looked at game point averages. Currie had 39 points in 5 games for a GPA of 7.8. Groves had 35 points in 4 games, for a GPA of 8.75, and MacDonald had 25 points in 4 games, for a GPA of 6.25, so Groves will be awarded first place.

The round one and two winners, the Bob MacWilliams rink, sat out this round, while  Rick Doiron had two wins, two losses and a bye, Paul Neima had two wins and three losses, and Gord Peters and Lew Black both had one win, three losses and a bye.

The Paul Durant rink moved down from the A pool for the last round, winning all five of their games, for 1st place in the B pool. Three teams, skipped by Kelly Watts, David Younker, and Ray Biagé, all had three wins and 2 losses, while Leigh Farrar and Mathieu Boudreau did not pick up wins in the round.

Here are the winners for the season, who will be receiving gift certificates, courtesy of our generous  sponsors, at our annual meeting and awards night (Date TBA).

Names are as listed on the rosters for the season, and may not be accurate for a particular round (I notice, for example. that Bob Fowler was playing on the Durant rink for a number of games, but is not listed). Please let us know of any changes.

Round one:
A Pool (sponsored by  Howard Johnson Dutch Inn) Winners::
Bob MacWilliams, John Berry, Roy Coffin, Jim Farquharson.
B Pool (sponsored by Griffin’s Service Centre) Winners:
Greg Groves, Donald Weeks, Winston Taylor, Marjorie Matthews

Round two, sponsored by Donnie Lowther Snow Removal
A Pool Winners:
Bob MacWilliams, John Berry, Roy Coffin, Jim Farquharson.
B Pool Winners:
Gord Peters, Hank Kamphuis, Gerald Dykerman, Pat MacInnis

Round three, sponsored by Clyde River Golf Links
A Pool Winners:
Greg Groves, Donald Weeks, Winston Taylor, Marjorie Matthews
B Pool Winners
Paul Durant, Allan Acorn, Jamie Ballem, Ryan Gliddens

Thanks for another successful season of the Ladder League!

Faster way to sweep the ice?

Lance 2

Looks like Lance has discovered a faster way to sweep the ice, although I am not sure how good it would be for ensuring a smooth running surface for the rocks! I also think that delivering from the hack with skates on could be a little difficult. I guess curling is over for another season — it’s a shame that all that great ice has to melt!

Reds win with wide lead as Closing Spiel brings Club curling season to a close

The Island Reds continued their winning ways over the Countryview Blues on Saturday, widening their lead to 161 to 124, to take control of the prize table at the Closing Bonspiel, sponsored by Countryview Golf Course, and the PEI Brewing Company.

The curling continued with three four-end draws in the morning, followed by three six-end afternoon draws. Both Red and Blue teams rallied their troops, Reds are pictured in the background, circling the ice house and cheering their team on to eventual victory – (check out the scores on the new scoreboards – they were winning on three of the four sheets at the time).

20130407_17

Off the ice, there was lots of food, with meat on a bun, potato salad and coleslaw on the lunch menu, and roast chicken, mashed spuds, veggies, and cookies for dessert served at the closing meal.

20130407_30

There was also live entertainment with fiddler Ward MacDonald, accompanied by Thomas Kirkham, entertaining with the best in Celtic music in the fireplace lounge area:

20130407_8

The soon-to-be-given-away TV above the fireplace  provided additional entertainment later, as curlers gathered around to cheer Team Canada on to victory in the Page 3 vs 4 game at the Ford World’s in Victoria BC.

As the day rolled on, and the winning team became clear, the Reds started eyeing the prize tables:

20130407_22

Finally, the curling and the closing meal were over, and organizers Barb and Ray Biagé took the mic to start handing out the goodies. Special note was made of Willie Nicholson (facing us at left of the centre table in the picture below), who was celebrating his 85th birthday!

20130407_31

The Red teams went to the prize table in order of their curling points finish, while the Blues watched  in envy (better luck next year!).  Countryview Golf kicked in a bunch of 18 hole green fees, with the following names drawn from the hat: (Canadian Stick Champion) Paul Field, Ray B., Lester Callbeck, Nucker Richards, Shelley Murphy, Barry Craswell, Lew Black, and Angus Davies.

Karen Currie of Countryview Golf took the floor to award the Paul Neima rink (see separate story) with the “best costume” honours (I think that Cathy, pictured in the Friday wrapup, should have won an additional award for best use of a sponsor’s product in a costume!).

The reverse draw for a free one night membership went to Ray Biagé (with his wife, Barb drawn out just before!).

The season-long 50″ LG TV ticket raffle went to Estelle Coffin of Savage Harbour (sold by Leonard Gotell).

During the event, tickets were sold on a Samsung GALAXY Tab 2 tablet computer, donated by Gord Peters, of Traction Heavy Duty Parts. Alan Acorn was the lucky winner.

A large number of door prizes were handed out as well.

Club President Bob Fowler took the floor to thank everyone involved in the event, and to plug the annual Club golf tournament, which will take place on June 22nd at beautiful Countryview Golf Club, route 19 in Fairview. The nine-hole, best ball event will use a shotgun start (everyone starts at same time, from different holes) for the first time, with tee-off at 10 am (you are asked to be there at 9:30). If you haven’t signed up yet, email the Club next week, or get in touch with Bob at 675-4333 or rwfowler43@hotmail.com. Everyone is welcome to participate in the golf tourney – teams will be balanced, based on golfing experience, and the “best ball” format makes it interesting for everyone. Bob also complimented the Cornwall curlers on an unbelievable season, including a number of Canadian, Maritime, and provincial championships.

Thanks to organizers Ray, Barb, and everyone else who helped out, along with Lance and the ice crew, Bev and the club staff, Bob and the Board of Directors, and everyone else who made this bonspiel a success.

A special thanks goes out to our sponsors, Trent Hayes and the PEI Brewing Company, and Carl, Karen and Kris Currie for providing fabulous prizes (and free beer!).

Did you know that our new sponsor, the PEI Brewing Company, have a new logo, and are moving in May to a world-class facility at 96 Kensington Road (the old Coke and then Cabinetmaster spot)? They’ll be offering retail sales, product tours (with samples!) and brewing up more of  their award-winning beer, too! Here’s a rendering of the new logo and location:

peibc

Long-time event sponsor Countryview Golf Course are projecting, depending on the weather, an April 19th opening (less than 2 weeks away!) this season, and the double-digit temperatures forecast for this week should ensure that this happens! Check out their great rates, including a nine-hole membership for $495, an adult membership of $715, a family rate, and a new junior rate too! Their memberships include unlimited playing privileges, advanced tee time bookings, use of two practice areas and putting green, and a complimentary range pass. They also have Ladies and Men’s nights, and a junior league, too.

The ice plant is being turned off today for the season. See you at the annual meeting and awards night (date TBA), the golf tourney (June 22), and back on the ice in mid-October!

New scoreboards!

New scoreboards were put in place on Friday, supplied and installed courtesy of Fitzgerald and Snow, who were the general contractors for our clubhouse renewal. The scoreboard layout/graphics were done by Sign Station PEI (Marie Ford). I am sure you will agree that the new scoreboard adds a modern look to our ice house!

Reds ahead, but not by much, at Countryview Golf/PEI Brewing Co. Closing Spiel

The Island Reds have a narrow 45-42 lead over the Countryview Blues going into day two of the Countryview Golf/PEI Brewing Co. Closing Spiel at the Cornwall Curling Club. If past records, which show the two sides almost even over the years, are any indication, the lead may change several times during the final six draws on Saturday, so the Reds will have to remain sharp to maintain their slim advantage.

20130406_12

Costumes of both colours were in full force on Friday, and food was plentiful, too! Mussels were served up (and muscles were displayed):

20130406_4

Everyone enjoyed the PEI Brewing Company’s Beach Chair Lager, with some even having a couple:

20130406_14

Finally, the curling was over for the day, and it was time to hit the dance floor, with music by DWX music service:

20130406_41

There’s live Celtic music in store for Saturday, lots more curling, and a closing meal and winner’s circle too!

Here are more pictures from Friday:

First two Open Division qualifiers determined at Canadian Stick Ch’ship

20130402_173

The first two of eight qualifiers for the championship round were determined this afternoon in the 40 team Open (any combination of  men and women) division at the Canadian Two Person Stick Curling Championship, hosted by the Cornwall Curling Club, with ice being used at the Charlottetown Curling Complex today only as well.

The Floyd Stewart/Gordon MacDonald duo from the Montague Curling Club edged the host Cornwall Curling Club’s Roddie MacLean/Paul Field twosome 7-6 to grab the first qualifying spot. MacLean and Field had started the day by scoring a rare six-ender (equivalent to an eight-ender in regular curling) in the 8 am draw.

The second qualifier game was between the rink of Tom and Rae Campbell of Winnipeg and Carson and Miranne Shultz of Didsbury Alberta, with the Shultz rink coming on strong in the final two ends of a tied-up game, stealing a single in the fifth and sealing the win with a steal of four points in the final end for a 6-1 win.

The next two qualifying games go Wednesday at 2:15 pm, with the final four qualifiers chosen in the 4:15 Wed. draw. The quarter-finals go Thursday morning at 10:30. The semis go at 11:30, with the winners advancing to the final, and the losers playing in the Bronze medal game at the same time.  There is also a consolation round for the losers of qualifying games 5 through 8.

The ten team, two pool Women’s division round robin wraps up with the 1 pm Wednesday draw, with crossover games following at 3:15, semis Thursday at 1:15, and the final Thursday at 3:15. Results from today’s draws are still being tabulated.

In Stick Curling there are two curlers per team, who deliver their rocks with delivery sticks, with each team member delivering from opposite ends of the ice sheet. Sweeping is allowed only from the hog line to the back of the house at the playing end. Two curlers, one from each team, alternately deliver 6 stones each per end, while their teammate skips that end. The roles are then reversed, and the partners deliver the stones back. No stone may be removed from play until the fourth stone of each end. Games are six ends and take about an hour to play. Instrument helps deliver curlers back into the hack to compete

From The Guardian, December 20, 2001

The delivery stick allows curlers who are mobility-restricted to continue to play

By Don Morrison
The Guardian

Three of four members of the rink entered in the Friday morning seniors’ league at the Cornwall Curling Club and two other seniors who curl at the club use the delivery stick which has allowed them to continue enjoying the sport. Lorne MacPhail, left, Ernie Stavert, centre and Sterling Stratton, right, compete with Al Hammond, missing from the photo, in the league. Joining the trio who use the delivery stick are Karen Wood, second left, and Eileen Blanchard.

CORNWALL – As much as Ernie Stavert wanted to return to the sport he enjoyed for close to four decades, it just didn’t seem possible.

A broken hip eight years ago left stiffness in his leg which made continuing curling impossible. Coming out of the hack to deliver a rock was too uncomfortable.
Then he was told of a device which had allowed other mobility-restricted individuals to continue curling.

“Gordie Lank was on his travels somewhere and he came back and said ‘I saw these people using a delivery stick’ and told me I should try that because I had been out of curling for three or four years,” said Stavert, a member of the Cornwall Curling Club and the first Islander to utilize the attachment.

A call to the Canadian Curling Association to locate a supplier subsequently triggered another idea.
He was told there were a number of commercial products on the market, selling for between $30-$200,”depending on what kind of bells and whistles you want to get”. Stavert was also told he could construct a delivery stick of his own.

“So I went to a plumbing shop and got a piece of pipe, put a 45 degree elbow on it and away I went. I paid $6.26 for my piece of plumbing.”
Stavert is one of about a dozen Cornwall members using the delivery stick.

In his fourth year with the device — although he has since moved to a commercial variety because it provides better stability — Stavert was comfortable with the unit from the outset.
“Because I was a teacher and used to being in front of people it didn’t bother me in the least but an awful lot of people were self-conscious about using it. Now it seems to be taking off.”

The delivery stick, which hooks to the stone’s handle enabling a curler to deliver a rock from an upright position, is becoming part of the game, especially for seniors or those with restricted mobility.

And it fully conforms to CCA regulations.
Nicole Phillips, president of the P.E.I. Curling Association, said the delivery stick has been a blessing for those looking to stay in the game.
“Curling is one of those activities which really is a true wellness-type sport where people can stay into their 80s,” said Phillips. “By reaching out to more people that might be in their senior years or wouldn’t be able to continue because of some physical limitation, it is going to add to the numbers that stay.”

Stavert is a member of a foursome of stick users in the Cornwall club’s Friday morning seniors league along with Sterling Stratton, who returned to the sport because of the tool after an extensive hiatus, Al Hammond and Lorne MacPhail.
The delivery stick will get extensive play during the provincial senior championship Jan. 2-6 at Cornwall.

“A whole bunch (will be) using the sticks in the provincial seniors,” said Stavert. “Sterling wanted to use the seniors as a warm up to the masters and I’m not old enough for the masters yet so there is no stick team, as such, going in the provincials although the team I’m on, there are three people using it and Sterling’s has a couple.”

While the stick has allowed for longer participation in the sport, it is less forgiving than a conventional delivery.
“When you deliver with a normal delivery you have some chance to adjust,” said Stavert. “If you’re sliding too weak or too strong then you push or hold back. With the delivery stick it’s more that one push or thrust and whatever you get is what you get.”

Stavert isn’t sure where the idea of the delivery stick originated but admits it may have had its start from disabled sports.

“I suppose it was one of those things, it took somebody to come up with a good idea. A lot of times these things evolve through sports for the disabled but I don’t know much about the background of curling for people with disabilities.”

Cornwall Daytime Curlers hold closing event

The annual Daytime Curlers closing event took place this week, with a big turnout of around 60 curlers, who all enjoyed two three-end curling games and a huge “scoff” of Chinese food, along with desserts, organized by Merrill Cronin, Bernie Field and others, door prizes, tulips for Cornwall Senior teams who won championships this year, a golf putting competition, and a 50X50 draw, won by Lance Lowther.

seniorsclosingPhoto: Chinese food

MC Ernie Stavert thanked everybody involved in another highly successful season of daytime curling, including Sterling Stratton and Don Graham, who did a lot of work getting the winners plaques by the door in order, and everyone who helped out with the Daytime curling this year. Among the initiatives funded with daily contributions for coffee and sweets this year was the sponsorship of some of the new rock handles. Ernie remarked that he’d been involved with the daytime curling for around 15 years, and was glad to see everyone step forward this year to give him a hand with organizing it.

A highlight of the event was the awarding of the Lorne MacPhail memorial award, named after a former member who passed away at the Club a number of years ago, after turning his life around and becoming an avid stick curler. The award, which has now been changed from an annual bonspiel to a “rookie of the year” award for new members who have contributed greatly to daytime curling, was presented to to Grant and Carolyn Crockett.

In closing, Ernie thanked everyone for attending, thanked the Club staff and volunteers, and invited daytime curlers to recruit new members for next season (the Club offers a 10% discount for doing this), to clean out their lockers, to sign up for the golf tournament and the closing spiel, and to keep active by participating in golf, lawn bowling and other summer events.

Canadian Stick Curling Championship begins Monday, here at the Cornwall Curling Club

The ninth annual Canadian Open Two Person Stick Curling Championship, the first to be held east of Winnipeg, gets underway Monday and wraps up on Thursday at the Cornwall Curling Club, with the Charlottetown Curling Complex serving as a second venue on Tuesday. The championship reserves spots for provincial champions, and also allows open entries. There are 40 teams from six provinces, including 17 PEI rinks, competing in the Open division, which includes any combination of male and female curlers, and ten rinks, from the three Maritime provinces, taking part in the Women’s division, which is new this year.  The 2012 Canadian Open Division champions, the duo of Warren Johnson and Earl Stephenson  from the St. Vital Curling Club in Winnipeg, are in the event, looking to defend their title.

Also entered in the Open division are the team of John Vincent and Walter Callaghan from the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, who won their fourth PEI title this year. The duo of Ruth Stavert and Gloria Clarke from the host Cornwall club, who recently won their fourth consecutive PEI women’s Stick championship, followed by the Maritime Stick Championship title, are among the Women’s division entries.

For more information on Stick Curling, including complete rules of play, visit www.stickcurling.ca.

There are forty  draws in the event, running from 8 am until approximately 6 pm Monday through Wednesday, and wrapping up with the Open and Women’s finals,  and the Open Consolation final and Bronze medal game, all Thursday at 3:15 pm. On Tuesday the Charlottetown Curling Complex will be used in addition to Cornwall, with games running at the same times at both venues.

The Open division plays a triple knockout format, qualifying eight teams for a championship round, which begins with the quarter-finals Thursday morning at 10:30. The semis go at 11:30, with the winners advancing to the final, and the losers playing in the Bronze medal game at the same time There is also a consolation round for the losers of qualifying games 5 through 8.

The Women’s division features a two pool round robin, with the second and third place teams from opposite pools squaring off Wednesday at 3:15 pm, and the winners facing the 1st place teams in the semi-finals on Thursday at 1:15, with the winners of these games advancing to the final.

For more information on the event, contact Shirley Lank at (902) 621-0258 or email 2013pei@stickcurling.ca.

Two Person Stick Curling is relatively new sport which provides challenge and excitement for people of all ages on an equal and competitive basis, and in a social atmosphere. Stick Curling is also appropriate for people with physical disabilities such as knee, back, heart, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, ankle, or foot problems.  The rocks are delivered with a curling stick from a standing or sitting position (i.e. wheelchairs) enabling everyone to participate competitively.

Veronica Smith rink 1-5, Alberta, Manitoba unbeaten at CIS-CCA nationals

[In Friday action, the UPEI Panthers, skipped by Cornwall’s Veronica Smith, lost 8-2 to the unbeaten Manitoba Bisons, and after scoring a deuce in the 10th end, lost in the extra end by an 8-7 score to the Saint Mary’s Huskies team, which includes Seven Mile Bay native Anita Casey at second stone. On Saturday, UPEI (1-5) finishes up play against the Guelph Gryphons (2-4) at 1 pm Atlantic.]

(by Jean Mills)

There are only two unbeaten teams, both female, with one round-robin draw to go at the 2013 CIS-CCA Curling Championships in Kamloops, B.C.

The University of Alberta Pandas, skipped by Kelsey Rocque, and the University of Manitoba Bisons, skipped by Breanne Meakin, are unbeaten after six draws. Both won twice on Friday and will go head to head in a winner-take-all battle for first place in the final round-robin draw of the championships Saturday at 1 p.m. Atlantic. The winner advances directly to Sunday’s gold-medal game while the loser will play in the semifinal.

Alberta skip Kelsey Rocque remained unbeaten with two wins on Friday at the CIS-CCA Canadian University Championships in Kamloops, B.C. (Photo, G. Wycherley Photography)

Alberta took on the University of Guelph Gryphons (Jaimee Gardner) in the opening draw of the day and beat the Gryphons 9-8 before eking out an 8-7 decision over the Western University Mustangs (Caitlin Romain).

Meakin and her Bison foursome kicked off Day 3 with an 8-2 victory over the UPEI Panthers (Veronica Smith). Their afternoon game was a 10-2 drubbing of the host Thompson Rivers University WolfPack  (Tiffany Krausher).

The ’Pack has fallen to 2-4 in the tournament after losing its morning matchup with Saint Mary’s University Huskies (Sara Spafford) 6-4.

The Huskies, meanwhile, had a great day winning both of their games. They needed 11 ends to dispose of UPEI   8-7 in the afternoon draw, and have taken over third place with a 4-2 record.

The McMaster University Marauders ( Coyle) are 3-3 and sitting in fourth, needing a win in their last-round-robin game and a Saint Mary’s loss to force a tiebreaker. The Marauders opened the day with a 9-3 victory over winless Western 9-3 but lost to Guelph 9-6. Guelph is tied with TRU for fifth at 2-4.

On the men’s side, a battle of the top two teams in the afternoon draw saw the Alberta Golden Bears take on the University of Waterloo Warriors. The Golden Bears and skip Brendan Bottcher entered the game unbeaten in five starts. Waterloo and skip Jake Walker had suffered their first defeat earlier in the day. The battle of former Canadian junior men’s champions saw Walker shade Bottcher 6-5.

That left both teams tied for top spot at 5-1, with Waterloo, which dropped a surprising 6-5 decision to the previously winless Trent University Excalibur (Mike Bryson) in the morning draw, holding the tiebreaker advantage thanks to Friday afternoon’s win. Both teams are assured of playoff berths

The final round-robin games on Saturday  have Walker taking on Darren Nelson and his Thompson Rivers University WolfPack (3-3) while Bottcher will do battle with the Manitoba Bisons and skip Steen Sigurdson (3-3). Sigurdson and Nelson went 11 ends in the afternoon draw on Friday before Manitoba prevailed 5-4.

That left Manitoba, Thompson Rivers and the Dalhousie Tigers (Lee Buott) tied for the third and final playoff position at 3-3. Dalhousie kept its playoff hopes alive with a 7-6 win over Atlantic Canada rivals the Acadia Axemen (Robert Mayhew). Earlier in the day, Dalhousie fell 7-6 to Thompson Rivers.

Acadia and Trent are tied for sixth place at 2.4. The Carleton University Ravens, skipped by Brent Lyon-Hatcher have a 1-5 record. They opened the day with a 9-5 loss to Alberta and were beaten 10-5 by Trent University.

After Saturday’s last round-robin draw, potential tiebreakers will be played at 2 p.m. (6 Atlantic), followed by the semifinals at 7 p.m (11 Atlantic). Sunday’s championship final is set for 2 p.m. (6 Atlantic)
