Wednesday evening Ladder League would like 1 or 3 more teams

There are 13 teams signed up to-date for the Wednesday Evening Ladder League. We would really like to have an even number (14 or 16), and invite anyone else who may be interested to put in a team. This is a semi-competitive league, not nearly as serious as those “pros” on Tuesday night, and we run two pools in a “Ladder” format, so the teams at the top of the ladder may never play the teams at the bottom, making the games match your level of play more closely. At the end of each round robin round, a couple of teams will move down the ladder from the A to the B pool, and a couple will move up. At the end of the season, prizes are awarded for the A and B pool winners in each round.

We have all-men’s, all women’s and mixed teams signed up, with players from Junior through Masters ages, so put a team together – you’ll fit in! Contact the Club if interested.

Here’s the fine print:

RULES: This is an open, semi-competitive team entry league. Eight end games, with any combination of male and/or female players permitted. To keep this league on a less competitive level than the Tuesday night league, no more than two players on one Wednesday night team may be members of the same Tuesday night competitive league team. This rule will also apply if spares are needed. If you call up a spare from your Tuesday team, they should be replacing another team member that plays on Tuesday night, so that there are no more than two Tuesday night players on the ice.

No ties: Skips will draw to the button (with sweeping) to resolve individual game ties. Only the throwing team may sweep the rock — the opposing team may not sweep behind the tee.

League Points will be awarded as follows:

3 points will be awarded for a win, 1 point for a loss, 0 points for a loss by default. Scores will be kept as well, to be used only in end-of-round tie resolution. In the event of a default, the non-defaulting team will receive a score of one point for each scheduled end.

At least one regular team member and at least three players in total must be present to avoid a default. Team members can play any position and can change from game to game. When teams are tied in points after a round, the win/loss record of those teams against each other shall be used to determine their ranking (provided that the two teams faced each other in the round). When the ranking of teams cannot be determined by comparing round win/loss records against the teams involved in the tie, the ranking shall be determined by the score differentials of the teams who are tied. If they are still tied, the full score differentials of the teams who are tied will be used.

In the event of a cancellation, the cancelled week will either not be played or be moved to the end of the draw. All subsequent weeks will remain where they were.  Any changes will be posted on CornwallCurling.com.

Ladder format: At the end of each round, the bottom two teams from the A pool will descend the ladder to Pool B, while the top twp teams from B will climb the ladder to A. The winners of both the A and B pools from each round, and the A pool runner-up in the final round will receive a prize at season end, courtesy of our generous sponsors.

The buzzer will be used to ensure the teams are off the ice within the 2-hour time period.  If the buzzer sounds, teams will complete the current end in play to finish  the game. If tied, the standard draw to the button will then take place.
