Red takes the lead after Red vs Blue Stick Curling event!

Well, our Red and Blue Stick Curling Playday, which took place on Thursday April 14th, did not disappoint… ! A day filled with some fantastic games, some great shots, and lots of laughs!

A genuine and heartfelt thank you goes to event organizer John Dunsford for planning this wonderful event again this year…! John’s easy-going nature and awesome experience in organizing sporting events is a true gift to our club and his super wit keeps us on our toes…!

Our day started with coffee service and pastries….Our super volunteer Etta Reid arrived bright and early to prepare the service and make sure everyone was welcomed with delicious goodies…Etta even got up bring and early to bake her cookies, as they “are best when served fresh”… What a beautiful and caring gesture. Truly. Thank you Etta! On the table were biscuits provided by Stick Curler Myrna Sanderson for all to enjoy with some jam and molasses, and some blueberry streusel muffins provided by a sweet little baker with much joy!  Club Member Bryan Sutherland followed Etta not far behind~ offering help getting ready for the day.

Any Stick Curling event would not be complete without Stick Curling icon, Mr.Ernie Stavert and we were so happy to see him join his lovely wife Ruth! Ernie was our official scorekeeper and overall games go-to official. Ernie is a long-time member of the Cornwall Curling Club and former President and Board member. When Ernie is on-site we feel the pride of our 40 years of club activity and community, and so enjoy his stories and reflections of past events and his savvy insight. Thank you for joining us Ernie!

We had 24 curlers participated this year in our stick Red and Blue, with most of our Stick Curlers participating and having a ton of fun! Everyone dressed in their RED and BLUE and a little fun competitive talks flying around in between John’s sassy jokes and commentary!

It was another close race for the “Red and Blue Club-Wide Points Race”! Our Red and Blue Stick Curling Playday resulted in 68 points for the RED Team and 48 points for the BLUE team. The Stick curling division awards points as follows: 3 Points for a win, 2 points for a tie, 1 point for a loss, and 1 point awarded to the team who wins each end.
The first two draws had the typical two-on-two Stick Curling format, with a third game being a three-on-three format. This three-on-three was really enjoyed by many curlers, as it provides an opportunity for social interaction and strategizing together…

Thank you to all the Stick Curlers for coming out and celebrating this season! While some challenges tried to get in our way, we had a great season filled with lots of good curling. We will be having Stick Curling Drop in Monday through Thursday next week from 12:30-2:30 pm, with our last session of the year on April 21st.

With the points from the Little Rockers and Novice Red and Blue Playday and plus the Stick Curling points, the current race total stands at:
RED = 78
BLUE = 68

Stay tuned for more updates!
